MHSC STORY

Background of the college

Mettu Health Science College was established as health assistant training school in 1958. Mettu
health science collage located in Mettu town 600 KM away from Addis Ababa in southwest
direction. More than 11530 health workers were graduated with different discipline since 1958
upto 2023. At the end of 1989, renamed as junior health professionals training school. In 1996
upgraded to regional health science college level. In 1996, the school transformed to Mettu
Health Science College by the Oromia regional health bureau. The College of Health Sciences
will be a first choice, nationally recognized school, known by delivering quality-training
programs, providing optimal learning experiences for students, produces competent health
professionals who will make a significant contribution to the health of the community through
the pursuit of health care.The College of Health Sciences will be recognized as the regional
academic center of quality training programs designed to meet the needs of diverse local,
national, and international communities.

Mettu health Sciences College known by Provision of
consultancy and community services that shall improve the health of the community through
active engagement of the community and stakeholders. Is one of those health science collages
found in the region at which different mid-level Health professionals like health assistant,
diploma, level III & IV diploma students were learnt and disseminated to the community for last
six decades. For more than 60 years college were continuously traning mid-level Health
professionals solving health work force scarcity of the country. The college has unique plan that
training of health worker based on scarcity or demand based training. Its training was target
based, graduate were easily assigned to work soon they graduated. Offering diversified mid-level
health professional training and education and recently started to conduct problem-solving
research.

To produce Competent, companionate and respectfully caring, and innovative health
professionals through the provision of quality long-term and short-term trainings and conducting
researches

Building sustainable training system that continuously produce competent and skilled health
work force that ensure quality, equitable and acceptable health care service for all citizens of the
country.
